really need help with chemicals!

we just bought an intex 16x48 agp, with swg. i've been trying to follow the pool school and using the calculator to figure out what i need to do to get everything right, but i am so lost! i don't have the fancy test yet, just the walmart 6 way strips. but these are my current results

total hardness 250
total chlorine 10
free chlorine 10
ph 8.4
total alkalinity 180
stabilizer 50

i just shocked it with bleach this morning and it's still really high. i know i need to get the ph lowered, and i have dry acid to add to it. but the pool is still brownish! i'm thinking it's because we have alot of iron in our water, if that's the reason, i'll just live with it. but i need to make sure i'm not missing something. i feel like somehow i'm messing up. any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Is it the pool's water or walls/floor that are brownish?

it's the water. we've had a towel laying on the ladder to catch some of the rust, and it seems to be helping some.

Run your filter 24/7. You may have to change cartridge later.

Lower your pH to 7.2. If it's iron, you should see some improvement.

Have a pool store check your water for metals and as Duraleigh said..............get the PH down.

Also get some sequesterant, phosphonic acid based, and an iron test kit.
