Was this a bad idea?

We replaced the liner of our 24' pool this year, a beaded J style. Everything looked pretty good for the first 2 weeks, then the liner started falling out of the groove in two places, the liner lock did nothing to hold it in place. Out of desperation, we took off the railing and J channel and stretched the liner over the top of the pool and replaced the channel on top of the stretched liner. It was slow going delicate work, but boy does it look good. We transitioned the liner above the filter and return area so it is still using the J bead channel, there wasn't enough excess liner in this area to stretch. Are we sitting on a liner time bomb now?

That doesn't sound like a great situation, but you might well be alright. As long as the liner is still fitting into the corners at the bottom of the wall and the remaining j-bead doesn't pull out, things should be stable for a long time.
