CYA is low and cannot seem to raise it - now what?

Hi Everyone!
CYA test as of this afternoon is reading between 20 - 25. We've added nearly 7 lbs of stabilizer at this point and it still will not go up. We did try to add about 4 lbs of it when we were shocking - could this have prevented it from actually being absorbed? We've also washed our filter out during the shock process...which I assume also washed some out.

Last addition was early last week, and that was about another 2 lbs. Do we just keep slowly adding more in, using the sock in skimmer method, or is there a better way?

According to the recommended levels, we want to be around 70 - 80, correct? At this point, i don't see how we'll ever get there! We've been trying to keep our FC around 4 - 5 ppm...but have had some fluctuation due to learning how to use our SWG! :)

Thanks for any tips or advice - it's always appreciated!

Are you adding straight CYA separately or are you using stabilized chlorine? If you broadcast CYA into the pool and then backwash within a couple of days then you may have lost some CYA there. If you have been using a sock to add CYA backwashing should not affect the CYA level. If you have been using straight CYA check the % of CYA on the label.

CYA can take about a week to register on the test. Also how have you been testing the CYA levels? Test strips are notoriously inaccurate, especially for CYA readings.
