Pool Filter PSI

I have a question about pool filter cleaning and PSI. What should the PSI on the filter be? Also how often should you clean the filter?

My last test results are

FC=1
CC=.5
pH=7.2
TA=160
CH=410
CYA=75

I added bleach to bring up FC and will test again tonight. Water is clear.

Filter pressure can have a wide range of acceptable values. It depends primarily on the size of the pump and the size of the pipe.

As for cleaning, the rule of thumb you see on many sites is to clean the filter with an 8-10 PSI rise but to me, that is way too high and can substantially reduce flow rates. I would clean a filter before it rises more than 25% from the clean value and preferably at 10%. However, if you have a small filter, that could mean you would be cleaning it a lot. So you have to balance the cleaning frequency with pressure rise. I clean my filter 1-2 times a year and there is barely any PSI rise but I oversized the filter which allows me to do that.
