calcium hypochlorite shock and trichlor tablets

Can i shock with calcium hypchlorite if i use trichlor tabs in my chlorinator?
I've seen several warnings not mix the two.
Does this just pertain to not mixing the chemicals together before adding?
Or can i a chemical reaction still occur if they are added at different times?

Thanks

You can use both in the same pool, but you need to be careful not to allow the solid chemicals to come into contact with each other. Never place cal-hypo in a tablet chlorinator where there might be trichlor tablet residue.

The best approach is to pre-dissolve the cal-hypo in a bucket and then pour that slowly in front of a return jet while the pump is running. That way there is no possibility of contact of the solid chemicals.

Remember that trichlor adds CYA and lowers the PH, while cal-hypo adds calcium.
