CYA Testing

The black dot test is the best test available. There are other tests that give more direct readouts, but they are actually much less precise.

If you are not confident in your reading, you can pour the solution from the view tube back into the mixing bottle and then try filling the view tube again. You can repeat this portion of the test over and over again for several minutes without affecting the test results.

Didn't know that. Thanks for the tip.

Cheers

Thank you for the info, and it is when the black dot "completely" disappears?

Yes, you want the black dot to completely disappear. There should be no hint that it was ever there, even when you stare at the sample for several seconds. The test should be done in sunlight, with the view tube shielded from direct sunlight by your body.

Thank you very much Sir. Those little tips will really help, as simple as they seem I think they will make a difference!

It may be worthwhile to look into Costco's LED reading lamps. These are little LED reading lamps, 2 per pack, with a huge clip at one end and 3 LEDS at the the other end, whose brightness can be adjusted. The aluminum gooseneck can bent and be adjusted exactly where you want light to shine.
