Fill pool without Plaster?

We are tight on finances right now but my wife & kids really want to swim...

Am I doing any damage to the pool by filling & using when it has lost about 30% of its plaster?

I'm assuming the plaster will continue to spawl, so I put a new drain cover on (anti-vortex) to help ensure water flow to the pump and strain out any large chucks of plaster getting in the mechanical parts. Also, this is a chlorine pool if that matters.

Thank you in advance!
Jeff

Welcome to TFP!

When the plaster is failing you will have some slow leaks, and it will look terrible, but otherwise things are usually fine for quite a while. The concrete shell under the plaster can handle being wet, though it will leak slowly.
