Chlorinating options.

Ok I have the 15x4 intex pool and the 1600GPH sand filter.

I have been using granular HTH chlorine and started with my cya just above 40ppm.

Now after using granular for almost 2 seasons Im wondering If I should be using a floater as that would add CYA since I have a few kids that splash water out of the pool so im always adding more water so im thinking thats diluting my CYA thus making me have to use more chlorine then I should to keep numbers up. I haven't really been keeping track of how much granular I use so maybe Im just worrying for nothing .

Don't worry...........Test! A couple in a floater along won't kill ya'.

HTH uses cal-hypo so it is not adding any more CYA to the water. As long as the water is clear and you are not replacing a 1/3 of the water volume at a time your CYA level should be fine. You could keep a bag or two of dichlor on hand and if the CYA drops below 30 use a bag to bring it back up.

Thanks ! I may just stick with what has worked. I remember half way through last season I had to add a small amout of CYA to bring it back up but it wasn't that much so I guess I'm just worrying about nothing.

I thought my bucket of cal-hypo said it has stabilizer in it..? I haven't been using it anyway.
