I am considering an Aquarite pro and I have an in ground pool that holds 40,000 gallons. The pool receives sun all day long. I have always run my pump 24 hours a day. The tag on the pump is all worn out so I have no idea how often my pool water turns over. I am going to probably replace the pump also. The t-cell 15 says it is good up to 40,000 gallon pools. Would I be cutting it too close? Can I optimize my setup by also sizing my pump in a way to compensate for being at the cell max?

Yep that would be cutting it way too close. Go at least one size larger and 2 sizes would be better. A 40k unit on a 40k pool is gonna have to fun full out all the time just to keep up.
The problem is that the 40,000 turbobcell is the largest that they have. I guess that I would need to run two in parallel. I couldn't find any literature on that. Do I need two control units then?
I'd go with a low end commercial unit. You can run two cell parallel and yes, you need two controllers.
