Grace, TOO TRUE!! -- we've had folks go into ~ 40 deg water when the pool was 1/2 filled - just to be able to say "I was the first one in" or "I DID go in the year it was built"

Reasons to go swimming in Dec...

I live close to the equator... what is 'winter'?

    or

I live in Australia - do you think I'd be stupid enough to swim in June?

    or

There is no local branch of the Polar Bear Club near me, but I want to 'share' their experience

    or

I put my bob-house on too early (for those of you who don't know what a bob-house is - it's a little heated shack on a sled or wheels that you tow out onto a frozen lake to ice fish out of -- you usually tow it out onto the lake with your truck, if the ice isn't thick enough, you end up swimming * and paying a BIG charge to get the truck and bobhouse out of the water-- and a $$$ fine for polluting the water)

    or

    I'm a masochist

    or

I've forgotten how it feels to have pneumonia, and it's nice too revisit an old friend

    or

My wife says I'm hard headed and I wanted to prove that even my head isn't hard enough to break 1/4" of ice... but I was wrong

    or

I needed to do my Mikvah --

    or

I wanted to see if my new polar fleece boxers REALLY work

    or ...

Sean, I can keep this up all night - care to give me a little more direction in which to take this?

(FWIW - I once came up with ~ 350 'Letterman-style' reasons to go to the restaurant I cooked at, all over the course of a weekend, many of them would never make it into the newspaper ad, but some that I thought couldn't, did)

Dave, I LOVE your new heater

Ted, you can post as many as you like. I probably won't use more than one, or maybe two from any one person though.

I really like the Australian one.

I finally found the hole in my liner and want to patch it

    or

Duh... I have an indoor pool

    or

I want to make sure I have a blue Christmas

    or

I've been feeling blue and want my lips to match my mood

    or

If it ain't froze, I'm swimming

    or

I can finally have the pool all to myself

    or

Stupid dog didn't realize I decided to wait til next year to get the safety cover

    or

With propane prices rising daily, I figure I'll use a lot now while it's cheaper

    Enough for this session

    or

    I lost the bet

my supply of 3 bottle of rum and coke so i decided to make ice and pool water.

i went on vacation to hawaii, WHAT YOU EXPECT ME NOT TO SWIM.

the devel made me do it

i wondered why penguins liked it so much

to test and see if fat was really a good way to keep you warm.

    nothing good on tv

i though the ice was stronger.

    You're done SLAMing when:
    1)You lose 1ppm or less FC overnight, & 2)You have .5ppm CC's or less, & 3)your water is clear.

........It's the only time of the year when I have the pool all to my self.

........It is a waste of an installment payment if I don't go in.

....... It is a quick way to sober up from all of the Holiday drinking.
