I have a friend who is self installing a pool on a large concrete pad. He is only putting gorilla pad between concrete and pool along with preformed coves. Will this add any padding for the bottom and is it ok to install it this away?

It will add just a little bit of padding, but nothing too significant. Gorilla pad is really designed for use on dirt, while something made of foam, like Happy Bottom, is more appropriate for concrete.
