TFT...DPD R-870 Powder Question

This is a simple one.

What exactly is a heaping scoop of this anyway?

I'm finding that the results between the DPD and OTO test vary a bit.

A picture would be quite helpful.

One heaping (heaped up amount that will stay put without falling off before getting to destination) OR, two level scoops. They are about the same amount.

The OTO test IMHO is not very good and I can never tell the different shades of yellow. Also OTO tests for TC not FC and CC seperately, so results will vary a bit if CC is present. One heaping scoop is in fact a rounded scoop, but if the sample turns solid pink, you have enough powder in the sample

Well I guess both of you explained it well enough that no picture is needed.

I have never needed to shock the pool except on opening...I leave it up and uncovered during winter, 4 years now.

I always think of the OTO test as checking for the presence of adequate chlorine. It's almost surefire for that. The FAS/DPD is virtually mandatory to complete the shock process and on days when you want to calculate something and need a VERY accurate result

After using the TFT for awhile now I can sort of see a trend as to how my chem. balances are and how my pool behaves.

I lose about 2 ppm daily in CL with CYA @ 30

TA is usually steady @ 100 and ph stays around 7.6-7.8

I like my ph around the upper range because it reduces the eye irritation.


All seems to be well, I just wanted to be sure I was testing with the DPD correctly as it is the most important test to me.
