Wintertime pool care?

Do I need to add chlorine or test the water during the winter when the pool is closed?

I live in the Midwest. It gets very cold here during the winter. My new gunite pool will be closed for the winter in about 2-3wks. This is my 1st pool.

If you have done the whole closing routine and covered the pool then there is no need to check over the winter. Some people like to check now and then when the pool isn't frozen solid but that shouldn't be necessary. If you are leaving the pool uncovered then it is worth checking now and then when it isn't frozen, though there should be little enough to do even in that case (so long as the water is cold enough).
