Cleaning and repairing pool tiles.

Hello everyone,

First off, I'd like to apologize if I placed this thread in the incorrect forum. I didn't see any totally appropriate ones for this particular question. So let's jump right in. Recently a build up has appeared on the tile lining my pool that I have been told is hard water stains. The estimated cost of cleaning this tile was around one thousand dollars. I'm interested in a more do-it-yourself approach, if at all possible. I have pictures:

Additionally, one of the tiles has fallen off and was removed by the team responsible for maintaining the bottom of the pool. I was wondering if the repair is at all easy and what steps I would need to take to replace it, assuming I could obtain the appropriate tile. Picture:

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can get the test results to you in a few hours if deemed necessary.

Welcome to the forum :lol: You can remove the scale by using muriatic acid. YOu have three seperate tasks to consider.

1. Remove white scale

2. Repair loose tile

3. Fix your water balance (as best you can) so the scale either never reappears or is minimized.

Which one do you want to tackle first? :lol: If it were my pool, I think I would fix the water chemistry, repair the tile, then clean it all up. but it really can be done in any sequence. take your pick.

The scale and missing tile are easy fixes. (for what your pool company would charge you I could probably afford to fly there and remedy them )

However, test numbers are important before cleaning the scale - if there's a chem problem causing them, it's necessary to know and the scale removal will effect the chemistry, so that needs to be taken into account. You're better off doing your own tests, with the TF100 kit or the K2006, but even pool store tests would be enough to know if it would be safe to proceed with the scale removal.

You can always ask the pool store about your numbers but expect them to tell you that you need $200 worth of chems

If you post the numbers for us to see, we'll save you a LOT of $$$
