Pool pump died - need advice

Hey guys I was sitting outside when my pump started whining. I went to check on it and smoke was coming out of it . If it cannot be repaired I was wondering what size pump I should get to replace it. My pool details are in my sig. Thanks!!

I'd go for a 1hp whisperflo 2-speed. A 1hp pump is plenty for that size pool.

I currently have a (dead) Hayward 1 1/2 horsepower super pump. Would it be easier and cheaper just to stick with another hayward to keep from having to buy plumbing and etc.? or can I bolt any old motor to our current pump housing?

You can bolt a new 1½ hp 2-speed motor to your existing wet end. That's about the only way to ensure not having to change the plumbing.

aha, i didn't know if the "wet end" would work with any motor or not

The motor "Frame" has to match and the Total HP (rated HP X Service Factor) has to be the same unless you replace the impeller.

If the pump part is OK, and you only want to change the motor, you can replace the motor with a 1 HP (Rated at 1 HP and a Service Factor of 1.0 to 1.1) 2-speed motor and change the impeller to a 1 HP impeller (I would use a SPX2607C). Make sure that the new motor "frame" matches the old one.

I am assuming the pump part plastic housing is fine. Do you think if i just stick with a super pump all that jazz will match up? Thanks for the advice about the impeller, I did not know that.

First, disassemble the pump to see if there are any other problems. If the pump is over 5 years old, you should probably replace the whole thing.

If you are going to do the repair, take the old motor with you so that the store (pool store or electric motor shop) will be able to make sure that the new motor will fit. The frame should match, the voltage should match, and the total horsepower should be equal to or greater than the impeller.

Everything should work. Replace the seal, diffuser gasket and the housing gasket.

Hey guys, I have a stupid questions, does the super pump use a round or square flange motor. I cannot tell, because the plate it attaches to is square and am functionally stupid when it comes to handyman issues ...

The two A.O Smith replacements I found online are both round flange is either of these a good fit for the Hayward Super Pump?

Bump. It seems the UST 1102 will work? Any advice before I order from amazon?

According to the part number it will work. Make sure the frame size is the same as the one you ahve now.

The Superpump uses the 56J frame, which is what the A.O. Smith UST1102 uses.

Since this is a smaller motor, you need to replace the impeller with a SPX2607C.
