Store did not have soda ash to raise my ph & alkalinity- can I use baking soda? I bought a 12 lb bag. My ph is below 7. ( not sure how much) and my ta is very low as well.

Certainly start by using baking soda to raise TA up. If you use trichlor tablets raise TA to around 150, otherwise raise TA to around 80. Baking soda will raise the PH somewhat, especially when the PH starts really low. However, it won't really raise PH all that much. The baking soda may or may not raise PH enough, so after the baking soda mixes in, retest the PH and see if it needs more work. If it does, it is best to find some borax or soda ash/washing soda.
