CYA testing?

Hello TFP users!! Summer is here and I've open my pool to an almost perfect beginning  (see pic)!! Used the BBB method last year and maintained perfect, clear water all season. I think I read on here last season that CYA readings are affected by water temp, is that correct? My water temp is around 60-65 and my CYA is reading low. Yesterday evening, it was reading perfect. Any comment/suggestions?

More than temp, the test is impacted by the time of day and the direction of the sunlight. I prefer to test my CYA in the early afternoon with my back towards the sun. Retest today and see how it goes :goodjob:

Take a water sample and allow it to warm up to room temperature before doing the CYA test and you will be fine. If you do the test right away on cold water the results can sometimes read lower than actual.

Wow, your pool looks great. My brand new Winter cover split at a seam and let a bunch of Crud get in the pool.

I'm glad I read this before I added all the stabilizer the calculator called for.

My temp has been in the 68-71 degree range and cya reading in the 30-40 range.

I can see where the cya test could get mixed results based on the light conditions. It's also a fine line between the dot almost disappearing and completely disappearing. Sometimes it's ind of hard to tell where to call it!

Thanks for everyone's comments... I've retested and CYA is at 50... Wow, your winter cover split? That's no fun! Last year a storm pulled on side of mine off and same thing happen, everything poured right into the pool... Nasty mess to clean out... Best wishes to ya!!!

Here are some pics from today...
