is too high borate level a problem?

Went a little overzealous on the borates for my spa. LaMotte strip reading says 80ppm. Is this a problem/hazardous? Do I need to do a partial drain, or should I just leave it?

Levels up to 80 are fine, just not necessary. I don't recommend levels above 80.

Once you get your borate levels up to 50+ what do you use for pH increaser if you usually use borax?

Unless you are using trichlor, stick with Borax. You will lose borates more quickly to splash out than you will add with borax.

In the rare event I need to raise PH and my Borate level is on the high end of the 50-80ppm range, I just take out my trusty $5 pvc aerator or water fountain and enjoy the show. PH+ or washing soda will work too but will also raise TA much more than borax
