How to add the bleach?

This evening I'm adding my first round of bleach (6%) to my pool. Looks like I'll be adding around 4 gallons of it.

Do I just pour it in over one of the returns? Or do I need to walk around the pool to try and distribute it evenly? Do I poor it in the skimmer?

Wondering what the "proper" way of adding a bunch of bleach is.

Pour it in the flow from a running return. Best and easiest way to do it.

Pour it slowly in front of the returns, with the pump running...

Are you shocking the pool? 4 gallons of 6% in a 22,000 gallon pool is around a 12 ppm FC rise..
