Is there anything special about a booster pump, or could I just use a dedicated 3/4hp pump, or even a 3050vs? Thanks

Booster pumps produce a high pressure low flow stream of water. A normal pool pump is designed to produce low pressure high flow. If you pool cleaner is designed to work with a booster pump it is very unlikely to work with a pool pump. There are other pool cleaners designed to work with a regular pool pump.
