Coping stage

Hi,

I have attached a photo of my soon to be granite coping. There will be 1 inch routed out of the inner bottom of it so that the pool edge hangs over the pool an inch. L shaped.
Is it okay that the coping hangs over the pool shell's outer edge an inch? The pavers are about 2 and 3/4inches and they will butt up to the coping.

OR

Does the coping absolutely have to be even with the pool shell on the outer edge?
