Could this be my leak?!

"normal" pipe install

I'm digging today to try and find my skimmer side leak (finger's crossed). Here's what I've found so far:

Is that normal to place bricks on top of the lines and then cover with dirt?
Wanted to know if I should replace them when I refill the holes - after I find the leak - which I am determined to find today!

Re: "normal" pipe install

Not really "normal", but may have been done to protect the pipes from being hit while digging... They aren't necessary, assuming you're not going to be doing excavation in the area for sprinklers, etc.

Could I have possibly gotten so lucky??
I can see a hairline crack - a tree root is forming a "v" and seems to have maybe squished it and created a crack - is that possible?[attachment=0:1tmmp9y5]crack.jpg[/attachment:1tmmp9y5]
