Vacuume to waste with Intex cartridge pump?

Sorry if this has been covered. I searched a few times and could not locate any information on this subject.
I am wondering if there are any tips on using this pump and filter combo to also vacuume to waste? I have a HUGE amount of fine dirt all over the bottom of my pool from all the high winds and drought here in south Texas. I have run Diver Dave a few times, but I can actually see a cloud of fine silt coming out of the return from time to time.
I am wondering if I can pull the cartridge out, disconnect the return hose, and vacuume to waste this way.
The pump should still function.......right?

Yes that should work. Remember to block the skimmer with something.

I have the over the wall skimmer. My hose will be connected to that inlet. I will shut off the valve where the return hose connects to the pool. That should do it I hope.
Sand is the worst!
