I'm wondering if a separate tester is needed with the Intellichlor onboard level meter.

I think you mean the Intellichlor salt system, as this would be used to test salinity of the water.
It is not necessary to have one, but it is nice to have to confirm the amount of salt in the pool.
I have never seen this brand, the price is sure good.

my bad regarding intelliflo. Will wait and see total spent on pool and then decide.
