Have a 12 year old generic W/M that i want to replace with a Hayward sp1090wm. Specs look almost identical +/- 1/8. Is this a common retrofit swapout? And would anyone know the difference between a sp1090wm and a sp1091wm? Thanks in advance.

Sorry, I don't know anything about the specs of the skimmers you are looking at, but I do have a couple of questions.
Is this for an above ground or in ground pool?
If in ground what materials are the decking, and the pool surface?

As long as the opening is the same size it shouldn't be a problem. You will want to get a new set of gaskets for the opening if the skimmer doesn't come with them.
