dogs drinking pool water?

I have a salt water pool. My two dogs like to drink the water from the pool instead of coming in for fresh water. Will this harm them?

If the water chemistry is well maintained there isn't any danger for pets drinking from the pool. However, it is best to train them not to drink from the pool just in case there comes a day when the water chemistry has not been well maintained.

If I go in the house and don't watch him, mine drinks my beer!! Then he swims in the pool and I NEVER see him get out to go to the bathroom.

Who needs a brother-in-law when you have a dog like that!

beautiful dogs..do they swim also? My husband wants the lab to get in the pool this summer. I say NO...cause I can just see her getting all wet and then coming in the house and shaking the water off. Will be a nightmare!!!

It might be a problem if you ever decide to use borax in your pool. You will find several discussions on it if you Google "borax" and "dogs".

With borates at 50 ppm, and even with the dogs getting 100% of their drinking water from the pool, you are still below the threshold of detectable symptoms.

Thanks for clearing that up Jason. I've seen several threads on the topic, but not having dogs I guess I never pursued the issue.
