this year as I was closing pool found hairline crack around 1 1/2 outlet on flat part of skimmer bottom am thinking of using silicone with 1 1/2 adaptor to seal is this best solution short of replace skimmer? thanks for your help anxious to open.

Replacing a skimmer is a big job. As BK said I would try to epoxy route.
