Since we just had our pool installed in July we paid the pool store where we purchased our above ground pool to close it up. They brought the cover, air pillow and disconnected the pump etc. I am considering opening the pool ourselves. We are newbies but we can handle this right? I'm thinking it is just taking the cover and air pillow off, connecting the hoses for the filter and pump, reattaching the pump and filling the water level. Of course we will need to get the water right but the pool store really won't do that other than throw some shock into the pool right? Am I missing something? (I know I left out some details like making sure the pump is grounded and putting the cover away dry etc) Is there anything else major I should consider?

That's about it....getting a good test kit (such as the TF100) will help with adjusting chemistry.

Thank you for the link, I read pool school back in the summer but forgot all of the information it provides.
I say tackle it yourself - opening is pretty simple and straightforward and you can save alot of dough that way.
