I opened my filter for the first time today (had never actually seen inside a DE filter before other than pictures on here). The cloth bags around the plastic ribs are very yellow and a little moldy at the top. They also pretty much all have a small rip at the top where the gray plastic arms were holding them in place.

What am I probably looking at here? Just new cloth bags? New bags and ribs? A new filter? I sprayed a couple of them with the hose, but I don't think that the cloth is really going to be useful any more. Right about now I wish I had a sand filter :-D

Welcome to TFP!!

Thanks for becoming a lifer! :goodjob: Also, very good job in providing pics!

Any of the grids that have holes should be replaced, otherwise you'll end up with DE in the pool. Most pool stores will have the replacement grids, or you can go online to get them.

Please be sure to check the plastic pieces that fit into the top manifold, if any of them are broken, you'll need to replace those grids too, even if there is no rip in the fabric :(

If you need a few pointers on using your inherited filter, check out this thread - though I think you have a good grasp on dealing with your filter

We, collectively, are always here to help you with your pool owning experience :-D
