Just stumbled upon this site and it looks good. Hopefully I'll be able to learn much here and maybe even add something intelligent once in a while.

I have a small in ground pool in the Central Valley of CA. My pool is a about 5 years old.

You will learn a lot, guaranteed. The learning curve is sorta steep, but that only lasts about 3 weeks, then it's easy. I'll warn you right now that the first time you actually ask anything, your first reply will ask you, "Can you post a full set of test results?"

You will need a test kit to play the trouble-free way. There's an article in Pool School about them. Or just skip that part, go straight to http://tftestkits.net and order a TF100 and a speedstir. Best money you'll ever spend on your cement pond.
