I'm getting ready to close the pool and was wondering should i take the Valve of the filter for the winter? the filter is new and I dont want to ruin it by having freezing water damage it.

We really need to know more to accurately give advice but if it's a multiport valve, there should be a winterize setting that basically opens all the flow paths and allows it to drain completely through the bottom drain of the filter. For extra assurance I'd blow the entire system out with it set to winterize just to make sure.
If it's a multiport you can remove the slight glass,o-ring and also the pressure gauge.
