Bonding/grouding rod by light junction box???

Are grounding rods ever put in the ground by the deep end where the junction box is for the light, to provide a ground for the light? When some excavation was done in my backyard I vagually remember there being one. BTW, too far away to be for my house.

It's hard to say what someone did 20 some odd years ago but it's certainly possible. The grounding in the cable should have been enough but someone may have fiigured it'd be a good idea to have a ground closer to the pool.
