How do I know when

So how do I know when it is time to clean (take apart and Clean) my DE filter?
I have backwashed a few times since I moved in. I have also been dealing with cloudy water in the pool.
CYA was high so I did a partial drain and refill, about 1/3.
Other numbers look good.
Added about 6 LBS of DE to my skimmer and after about 6 minutes I got a cloud in the pool.
Just wondering if I need to crack into the filter and clean it or if backwashing will do it?

Never opened up a DE filter before, but I think I could do it....

I'd open the filter, but you may be looking for a damaged grid or a multiport issue, rather than cleaning it. No matter how dirty it is, it should let any DE into the pool.
