Leaving for a week. I've only used the BBB method since I got the pool, but I figure that I should get some trichlor as a patch... How many tablets should I use? And, Should I float it, or put it in the skimmer?

I'd buy one of those prefilled floaters at Walmart. That way you can just chunk it when you get back. With a CYA of 50 already you'll probably have to drain some water when you get back but you can check it and adjust then.

I have never used one of the floaters. Could you also simply remove it and let it dry out for another day?

One thing I just noticed. With a pH of 7.2 the Trichlor will probably drive your pH down a little so you may want to adjust it to mid range before you leave.
