Pink Eye in the family, do I need to shock?

My daughter and I have pink eye and it's bound to spread to the rest of my kids. Do I need to bring the CL up to shock level or should the 3-5 ppm FC kill whatever is causing the conjunctivitis? My k-2006 test kit should be arriving today so I'm wondering what I should be checking to make sure the bacteria is dying.

I don't think you need to shock. As long as you have chlorine in the pool, the bacteria will die, and very quickly. They are much easier to kill than algae.
