Bubbles from returns

Is it normal to have bubbles constantly coming out of the returns while the pump is running?

No it's not. It indicates and air leak between the pool and the pump. Often it's just a loose pump basket lid.

John is right on the money. I had a similar situation last year. It drove me nuts till I discovered there was a small piece of debris that was stuck to the O-ring of the pump basket which allowed just enought air seepage to create the bubbles from the returns.

Note that a SWG will produce very small difficult to see bubbles when it is running. Other than that there shouldn't be any bubbles in the returns.

I see the bubbles primarily when they surface. I reduced my chlorine setting on the SWG from 40 to 30% today and checked on the bubbles off and on. Interestingly, sometimes they are there, and other times later they are not. Is there any way to know when the SWG is generating by looking at the aquapod display?

Great advice so far!

It usually is an air lead on the suction
side of the pump.

It could be anywhere from the hose
on your automatic pool cleaner right
through to the pump.
