Doughboy pool pump

Hi! I'm just wondering if anyone can give me some insight. My Doughboy 2hp pump is 4 years old. Two days after opening the pool, water started gushing from the small sqaure openings on the bottom of the pump. I ordered a new pump, but in the meantime to keep water circulating we run the pump. I have to keep the hose in the pool when the pump is on. We are now only running the pump when we're home.

Anyone have any ideas?

I'm guessing, but the small square holes are between the electric motor & the pump housing itself? If it is, I would say you have a shaft seal that needs replaced, or a crack in the pump housing.

Sounds like shaft seal to me. When you get the new pump you might want to have the old one looked at because it would be worth replacing the seal and keeping it as a backup of selling it on ebay or craigslist.
