I've had my pool open three weeks- I've added CYA at first- about four pounds.
My readings show about 30 that I've check about every ten days.
Under normal conditions- how often would you add normally?

In the spring, and maybe a little to top it off in August if the summer has been wet. Most years just once.

What he said. I might add that if there's something abnormal, you may need to add more. By abnormal I mean: plumbing catastrophe where half the pool gets emptied; torrential rains where the pool overflows; 400 pound neighbor entertains the kids by doing cannonballs.

Troublefree does not mean Maintenancefree. It's like brushing your teeth: You can spend a couple minutes a day and pennies a week or go to the dentist once a year and spend several thousand dollars.
A pool is like a pet - you have to feed it every day, even the days you don't want to play with it!

Thanks guys-reason I'm asking is- I test for chlorine and ph daily and am addiing a fair amount of bleach- probably 80 ounces a day and that barely keeps me at 3-4 ppm of FC. I have only tested for CYA a couple of times- CYA actually helps retain chlorine right?
The trouble free pool method really doesn't seem to be the money saver over Pristine Blue that I thought it would be.... (if I'm implementing it like its supposed to be)....but the pool sure does look better!

In Nashville your CYA should probably be closer to 50. 80oz is about twice what I use, your pool is a little bigger but not nearly that much bigger.

I used a lot of bleach too until my CYA got to 40. Then it stabilized and less was needed each day. It took about 1 week.
