If the pool will be unattended for two weeks could I temporarily use the pucks for chlorination or would it be better to add an algaecide?

If your CYA isn't already too high, trichlor pucks are a good way to maintain your pool during times away. Even if it gets too high and you don't have an issure draining and refilling part of the water you can still use them.
