Questions about the AA treatment for stains.

The manufacturer's directions on a certain AA product that I know of says to balance the water to 100-120 TA and 7.4-7.6 pH, along with 0 chlorine, before starting the treatment.

But it's actually more effective to lower the pH to 7.0 or 7.2 before starting, right?

The question is, if your pool had a 7.4 pH and 50 TA, would you raise alkalinity before starting the process? Or would you ignore the TA and actually lower the pH? Or would you cycle it until you could end up with a 7.0-7.2 pH and a higher TA?

Thanks if you take the time.
