size matters

I have been trying to resize my pics for use as an avatar, but the size is never small enough. It seems to be the kb that are killing me. Can anyone advise :?:

Thank you. How did you resize that? I tried many things all with no luck.

I used the save for web & devices option in Adobe Photoshop, which does some fairly clever compression.
