Adding DE to a sand filter

Hello I want to add DE to my ABG sand filter.. How much should I add? I am sure it is based on the pump's pressure and I am not sure how high I should raise the pressure.. Hope that makes sense lol....

I've heard two different recommendations. The first is, add 1 lb DE (period). The second is, add DE until you see a 1 PSI rise in the pressure.

I recommend adding 1/2 a cup of DE, wait 60 seconds for things to settle, check the psi, and repeat until you know how much DE it takes to raise the psi by 1. Then you can use that amount of DE every time. For a small sand filter that will be much less than 1 lb, for a large sand filter it could be more than 1 lb. You only need to do the extra work once, and they you know how much to use.

I know this is a stupid question, Why would you add DE to a sand filter? Hey, Im new to this any info is good info to me .
I got way more pool than i bargained for.

Adding DE to a sand filter will catch all the fine particles that the sand filter lets slide by..

I added about 6 cups which seems to have brought it up 1 psi...

Momof3 Looks like you have it done. I would recommend that people verify thier pressure guage works before doing this.

thanks! so ya just add it via the skimmer a cup at a time.
this is something i might look into.
