water sample?

I have a friend who wants me to test her water while she waits on her test kit. How long can you wait from the time you get the sample til you test it? It could be as long as 48 hours. Is that ok?

By the way..I converted at the end of the summer. Opened pool a few weeks ago and it is beautiful.For the first time in 4 years I am actually looking forward to the swimming season. I can't thank you guys enough.

You typically want to test right away. There are a few test you can wait until the water warms up a little if need be to room temp. From what I have read, within the hour that you get the sample.

48 hours would be much too long to wait. The sample degrades fairly quickly. You might be able to get a CYA and a CH from it, but the chlorine would be long gone and the pH probably wouldn't be the same either.

While I agree with the above posters, just keep in mind that testing even old samples is better than sending her to the pool store.
