Vacuum port

We are looking to install a vacuum port in the pool. Are there any suggestions?

I believe we would need to have it below the water line, but does it need to be a certain depth?

Also, I was wondering about flip covers to keep the hole covered while I have swimmers. Do they make such a item or should it stay open? We will have the jandy switch to turn the port off while there are swimmers. (Although I usually don't run the pump with swimmers.)

For sanitation, you should be running your pump with bathers in the pool.

I didn't know that. I usually shock the pool afterwards.
