Are Heat Pumps Reliable?

Hey folks,

I was considering investing in a Heat Pump. I started looking around on the net, and I've noticed that if you check out places like CraigsList, you'll find a lot of broken Pool Heaters for Sale. Are they not reliable? Do they have a short lifespan?

If I invest $3,500K + in this, I expect a good 10 years of service minimum. Is that realistic?

Thanks

A couple of things.
First you have to diferentiate between heat pumps and gas heaters.
Then you have to question, what broke about them.

Bad chemistry will "break" a heater in short order.

The technology for both is sound and lasts many years if regular maintenance and chemistry is kept in line.

Since you're on here, I'm going out on a limb here and say that your chemistry will be great so if you do due diligence in maintaining the unit, either a gas or a heat pump will last you many years.
