Can I use up SunGuard shock to open my pool?

I want to do BBB w/ my pool. But the previous owners left some SunGuard shock (3-1lb bags) and I'd like to use it if I can, to save money. (I also have regular 6% bleach, borax, and baking soda on hand.)

Just to start out, is it ok to use up the chemistry that is already here?

It depends on what your current levels are and which particular kind of SunGuard shock that is (SunGuard makes four different kinds of shock). Some forms of chlorine add extra CYA or extra CH, which may or may not be something you want to add right at the moment.
