Should I cover my pump and filter?

I was thinking about putting a roof over my pump and filter. Is this worth it? How much ventilation should it get?

I think it's worth it but then I'm biased because I have covered ours. It requires a bit of ventilation but not too much. Just enough to give good airflow over the pump motor. My equipment building is about 5'H X 5'W X 6'D with a sloped roof. The side against the wall of the house is open so it gets plenty of air circulation. It's also insulated with 1" foamboard.

Yes. It is my experience that pump motors last significantly longer when installed where protected from rain and direct sunlight. Filter valves (multiport) also benefit from cover because roof grit and other stuff falling on top of it often jams up the handle.

Another thing to consider is the damage that sunlight can do to your filter housing.
