Can you post a full set of test results for us? Include the salt level and the water temperature as well. Are you getting any error messages from your Intellichlor?

Where are you located and what temp is that water? Most (if not all) SWG's will shutdown and not product below a certain temp

If CYA is low, will this cause FC to be 0?

If you don't have CYA and you have algae or other contaminants in the pool, the chlorine could be used up quickly. Turn your chlorinator up and run the pump all night. Check the chlorine first thing on the morning to see if you are making any.

ETA: Either way, you need to raise your chlorine level manually to avoid an algae bloom.

OR stick a hose on the end of a return and fill up a bucket... test teh bucket for FC or CC. If you have some, its working! It just cant keep up at the moment, you may want to shock with liquid chlorine if this is the case to let it "get ahead" of the algae.

Yes, without CYA, you will lose your entire amount of FC to the sunlight in just a few hours.

    Re: no chlorine being made

Without CYA the chlorine will burn off fast! This site recommends a CYA level of 60-90 for pools with salt water chlorine generators. If you do not have any CYA in the water you will need to add some to bring it within range. It is probably burning off before it has a chance to accumulate enough to register on the tests. You will want to add chlorine manually until you add enough CYA to allow the chlorine to accumulate. How high is your pH?

    Re: no chlorine being made

That's a very high pH. You should lower it to 7.2 and go ahead and shock your pool with bleach. pH does not affect CC. The reason that you should shock right now is because you have a very warm pool and nothing to keep an algae bloom from starting.

CYA, known as cyanuric acid, can be purchased at most places that sell pool chemicals. It is often listed as stabilizer. Read the ingredients and make sure that you get as close to 100% CYA as possible.

    Re: no chlorine being made

Is your IC-40 hooked up to an intellitouch or is it stand alone? If you turn it up to 100%, and everything is correct, you should get a green flow light, green salt light, green cell light, and a green 100% light. What do the indicator lights show?
Edit: ok i just saw where you said all lights are green. Try the hose idea. That should tell you if you are making chlorine. As others have said, you need some CYA in the water.
