Is Pool Tile Really Needed?

Hey Forum,

I am in the process of cleaning up/opening up my pool, and I wanted to know if I Really need pool tile. I personally think it is a the biggest waste of money ever.

Is their any real logic for pool tile, outside of the look?

The logic to pool tile is that the waterline has a huge amount of grease, scum, and oil that collects on the tile.

The tile is easily cleanable, and the plaster is not.

Without the tile this gunk would stick to the plaster and stain it- literally this stain would not be cleanable

Unless you are William Randolph Hearst (loaded with dough)- you just tile the waterline.

What Dave said, and the fact that pool plaster needs to remain wet; it does not like to be exposed to air and will fail.
