Cloudy water after shocking

I've repalced my pump and shocked the pool - keeping the chlorine level up and running the pump for 3 days.
I still have cloudy water.
What's the alternative to the clarifying chemicals?

good filtration, if your sand is too clean it takes longer to filter the water clear so adding some DE (diatomaceous earth) may help as could some flocculent but patience can also work too

Could be that I'm backwashing too frequently? We've had a lot of live oak flowers in the pool the last month...they break up into little crumbs and go right through the baskets.

What's the rule of thumb for backwashing?

If you post a full set of test results, we can advise you better.

If you have don't have a manual to refer to - it can be anywhere from a 6-10 rise in the PSI. Note the "clean" pressure for future reference.

This could also be a chemistry issue, so if you can provide test results we can determine more.
